Since 1859, the DeLaSalle Christian Brothers, in close association with dedicated men and women both lay and religious have conducted Christian Brothers Academy as a private, Catholic, and College Preparatory high school for young men living in the tri-city area. Since its beginning the school’s mission has been and still is to educate young men of diverse cultural ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds with special concern for those most in need. We provide a nurturing Christian environment that fosters spiritual, moral, intellectual, emotional and physical growth in the Roman Catholic Tradition and LaSallian spirit as embodied in the life and teachings of Saint John Baptist de LaSalle, the founder of the DeLaSalle Christian Brothers. We create experiences of community within the school and encourage each student to develop his gifts and talents for his own growth as well as to engage in the caring service of others.
CBA’s success is clear. For the last 25 years 99-100% of students have graduated and 98-100% of these students went on to attend college. The school has always made an attempt to provide an extremely strong student focus, challenging standards, professional community and commitment, and has produced multiple indicators for success down through the years.
It costs the area public school systems over $11,000 to educate one student. Less than 44% of these public school students graduate in 4 years. Tuition costs are as high as $17,500 in Capital District private schools. The actual cost to educate a student at CBA is $9,800. The annual tuition charged is $7,650. In fact these figures show that each student at CBA is indeed receiving tuition assistance. Each student receives the difference between the charged tuition and the cost to educate. In addition, over $300,000 each year is given in financial assistance for those in greater need. Some students come to CBA with hope and motivation, but without the resources to pay, in whole or in part, for a private, Catholic education. It has always been the policy of the DeLaSalle Christian Brothers to try to keep tuition as low as possible for our families, but apparently not low enough for some to afford. CBA and the Brothers do not like to deprive anyone and would like to explore all possibility for help.
It is at this point that you could be a key figure in the CBA mission. Your sponsorship could help provide a very important part of what a young man need s to become successful - a good academic education, training in leadership and development of self-responsibility. If you choose to help CBA to achieve its mission your role can be a flexible one. You can decide your level of contribution towards sponsorship. You might like to assist by contributing a full tuition ($7,650) or a half-tuition ($3,825) or you might wish to contribute any part of a students’ tuition. You might want to sponsor a student for a year, two years, three years or four years. You will have the opportunity to stay in touch by means of updates on your student and/or the program, or simply sit back knowing that you are providing an invaluable opportunity for some young man. Invest in a boy! Help him become a man-an outstanding adult. In return, we will require the student to maintain a reasonable grade point average. He will also provide a certain number of ‘service hours’ to the school.
We need generous and concerned people like yourself to consider accepting this opportunity of being a CBA Sponsor and helping a young student develop into an outstanding adult. Can you think of another investment that will give you such a rewarding return? You’ll be proud of him and you’ll be proud of yourself.
If you wish to consider this invitation and would like the opportunity to be a part of the CBA Sponsorship Program call Michele O’Hare or Brother Henry at the Development office (518-452-9809 ext 113 or 116).
