CBA Senior Chris Watson got the thrill of a lifetime in July when he was selected as one of two Boys State representatives from New York who travelled to Washington, D.C. as part of the Boys Nation program.
At Boys State / Nation, participants learn the rights, privileges and responsibilities of franchised citizens. The training is objective and centers on the structure of city, county and state governments. During his time in Washington, Chris visited the United States Capitol where his group received special tours of the Capitol, the Supreme Court and many other Washington landmarks.
The hightlight of Watson’s trip came during his visit to the White House when he met President Barack Obama. The President asked Chris about his future goals, to which Chris answered ”I’m going to be a Marine. I plan to go the Naval Academy or go Marine ROTC.” The President took a good look at Chris then replied ”Well you definitely look the part,” before giving him a hug and saying “Good luck to you, son.”
Watson is a member of the National Honor Society, the marching band and a volunteer fire fighter for the town of Wilton. He says he has always known that one day he will serve his country. As a member of Boys Nation, he joins a group of former presidents, congressmen, state governors and state legislators — all participants in Boys Nation and all who have served .
